I love the idea of being homesick for icebergs. I grew up in Buffalo, New York. Think, Blizzard of 77. I'm not sure I miss that kind of snow or that I'll ever be homesick for Buffalo but I "do" experience nostalgia when I think of people who have passed and how they enriched my life. I think what I'm saying is that for me, it's people more than place. 💕

Beautiful piece, Jayne.

"For once, I recognize the sky."

A perfect encapsulation of the feeling of chasing the memories of youth, but with the extra layer of knowing that the reason things aren't the same has little to do with growing up. How challenging it is to face the climate crisis when everyone, understandably, applauds the melting snow and ice. It makes life easier--a life that just gets us more stuck in patterns of damage and decay. At the very least we can hope for more moments, however brief, that we recognize the sky.

Less snow does make things easier, with the way that we've designed things. More heat ...I can't see how that brings ease. Thanks for taking the time to read and thoughtfully respond. <3
